Dear sirs!
My name is HÀ NAM NINH.
I am a navigation officer on sea going vessel.
I alway use the ECDIS for navigation.
One day, I look for the island name "Itu Aba" in Spratly area.
It surprise me that all the marking in South China Sea had been change to the name like Chinese pronunciation. There is no any more Scarborough Shoal, Johnson Reef, Cuarteron Reef, Fiery Cross Reef, Subi Reef, Hughes Reef, Mischief, Second Thomas Shoal, Gaven Reef, McKennan Reef, Itu Aba, Thitu, West York, Spratly, North-East Cay, South-West Cay...
Don't you think that South China Sea belong to China?
Don't you think that Paracel & Spratly belong to China?
NO! The answer is NO!
So then, please return the true name of all marking on ENC.
Your sincerely.

HÀ NAM NINH

Dear Sir
Thank you for your email about the name in the ENCs of the South China Sea.
The names that you have commented on are all coded into the ENCs with the producer code 'EA'. You will notice that the smaller scale ENCs produced by 'JP' and 'KR' and the ADMIRALTY paper charts continue to use the English names. 'EA' ENCs are produced by the East Asia Hydrographic Commission, which is an organization that is made up from Hydrographers from the nations surrounding the South China Sea such as Phillipines, Malaysia and China.
Although UKHO distributes foreign government ENCs in AVCS, we cannot make any changes to the content - that can only be done by the producer nation.  It should also be noted that Claims to Territorial Sovereignty are not depicted on 'EA' ENCs, and the producer nation has rendered all names in accordance with their own practice, which does not necessarily reflect the practice of other nations.  Use of these names in this ENC in no way indicates agreement with or acceptance of any territorial claims in the area the names that are coded into ENCs in AVCS do not demonstrate any acceptance of any territorial claims in the area.
Regards
Chris Berkley
Senior Product Manager, Charts
